EMF-Shielding Paint
EMF-shielding paint is a special coating which contains conductive particles, either metallic or carbon. It is used to shield radio-frequency EMF, and is not effective against low-frequency magnetic fields.
The paint is generally quite thick, and black in colour (carbon-based paints). I understand that you can paint over it, but you may need two coats to properly mask the colour.
Be prepared to measure the EMF with a suitable meter before you start, and after you finish -to check the paint’s effectiveness and your own workmanship!
We recommend that EMF shielding paint be electrically grounded for best results. Some people use strips of conductive tape for this purpose (applied to the wall first, then painted over. (The tape also has to be connected to an electrical earth.) Or you can use a grounding kit made for the purpose. (See below.)
Finally, you may need more paint than you expect for each coat, and you may need more than one coat in some places.

EMF-Shielding Fabric
One of the most convenient and effective ways of shielding radio-frequency EMF is to use a fabric designed for the purpose. The purpose is always to screen out radio-frequency EMF, but the uses are varied. For example, EMF-shielding fabric may be used for
- Net curtain at a window
- Backing material for a normal curtain
- Bed canopy
- Construction of an enclosure for partial screening of EMF-emitting equipment (e.g. routers)
- To make items of clothing for personal EMF protection
- To screen interior walls
Some fabrics are better suited to some uses than others.
And please check the width and length of the product you select, to make sure it meets your requirements.
When using fabric for EMF screening, it is useful to be able to check that it produces the desired effect. For this purpose, a good radio-frequency EMF meter is highly recommended.

Combined LF and RF Meters

These meters are handy if you want to be able to check for both low-frequency EMF and radio-frequency EMF in one instrument.
As you might expect, they are more expensive than meters which test for only one type of radiation.
The Trifield TF2 deserves special mention, because unlike most EMF meters, it shows both a digital reading and an analogue reading (using digital technology rather than an actual moving needle.) One advantage of the analogue approach is that you can see very rapid fluctuations in the signal, rather than just showing an average or a peak reading (both of which it does show, simultaneously). I like it. We have used this meter professionally, and can recommend it.
